Holiday Helper Contest Entry!

Thank you, Susanna Hill, for this fun contest and for all you do for the kidlit community! And thank you to all those who are providing the awesome prizes!

Guess What? It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Contest Time!

Ho! Ho! Ho! The 10th Annual Holiday Contest Is HERE!

Prompt: holiday helper
Audience: 12 and under
Word count: 235 (250 max)

I Can Help with Christmas

I can help with Christmas! I can’t wait to decorate!
I’ll help with all the things you do that make each Christmas great.

I’ll toss the tinsel on the tree and string the twinkly lights.
I might hang all the ornaments at tiptoe-reaching heights.

I’ll write and color cards to send to people far away.
I might misspell a word or two or not know what to say.

I’ll sing some merry melodies to fill our house with cheer.
I might switch up the lyrics or hum loudly in your ear.

I’ll pick out favorite treats to make. I’ll measure, pour, and mix.
I might add extra to the bowl or take some tasty licks.

I’ll build a house of gingerbread and add an icing door.
I might drop bits of candy in my mouth and on the floor.

I’ll shop with you for everyone so no one’s gift gets missed.
I might spy toys I like and want them added to my list.

I’ll help wrap gifts with ribbons, paper, boxes, bows, and bags.
I might use all the tape or switch which presents get which tags.

I’ll keep good secrets so you’ll be surprised on Christmas day.
I might get too excited, though, and give some clues away.

I’ll find a way to help with every Christmas thing we do.
My help might not be perfect, but I’ll do it all with you.
