OPENING DAY—POSTPONED (92 words)

By Amy Leskowski

Big game today!

Can’t wait to play!

Drip,

drip.

No way—

a rain delay.

How long?

Yet?

When?

Another ten?

It’s time!

But then—

they wait,

AGAIN.

A wind too loud

and darkened cloud

concern the crowd

of fans so proud.

Each parent waits.

Each coach debates.

Ump estimates,

talks “makeup dates.”

Cleats kerplunk.

Laces dunk.

The field has sunk.

Gear

fills

each

trunk.

It’s time to scoot.

Each star recruit

must take their route

for home’s commute.

Three days of doubt,

slump,

grumble,

pout—

till sluggers shout:

“The sun’s back out!”
